Glossary · Acronym FMP / PMF
Forest Management Plan (FMP)
Technical document, generally signed by a licensed forestry engineer, that defines how a forestry unit in Panama will be managed and harvested across its rotation cycle. Known locally as PMF (Plan de Manejo Forestal). It is a MiAmbiente requirement for any forestry harvest operation and to maintain registration in the Forestry Registry.
Definition. Technical-administrative plan documenting forestry inventory, management objectives, silvicultural prescriptions, harvest plan, environmental protection plan, and monitoring commitments for a specific forest management unit.
Why it matters to investors
- Traceability. The FMP is the documentary basis linking your lot to an active technical plan. Without an approved FMP, there is no legal harvest.
- Audit. A FMP signed by a forestry engineer licensed with MiAmbiente / MOP is verifiable. The professional signature implies technical liability.
- Continuity. The FMP must be periodically updated. Ask the operator for the current version and the next scheduled revision.
What to request from the operator
- Copy of the approved FMP for the unit where your lot is (or will be).
- Name + licence number of the responsible forestry engineer.
- Last MiAmbiente approval / update date.
- Compliance status (harvest and monitoring reports submitted).
